Everyone in End Game is busy with a different activity. But what is the ultimate goal of all this activity, deception and violence? The answer, says Ostrovsky, should be peace. But none of the game players have even noticed the dove flying past them. Peace is invisible because war is the game of espionage, and the players demand the games continue. If peace were realized, the need for spies would end. The game itself has become the object of life.
